Cub lo boy 154 clutch pressure plate 184 (needs work)

Cub lo boy 154 clutch pressure plate 184 (needs work)
I purchased these two components used with the intent to use them. I installed them on my 154, but could not get them to work effectively. There was too much resistance on the clutch. For example, if I pushed the clutch petal down, the rear end would continue to spin and therefore I was not able to shift gear, merely grind them. When in gear, if I shifted from first to second, I could do so if I shifted quickly. If I was hessitant, it would grind and I would not be able to get it in gear.
One thing I considered to do, but did not, was to sand the pressure plate surface smooth. Maybe this would have allowed the clutch to function normally.
I tried to adjust the clutch petal several times, but could not get any possitive results. I am fairly mechancal, but still did not have any success.
Therefore, I have decided to purchase a new set.
Please note, the clutch has been welded, but it appears to be completed in a good fasion. The pressure plate is complete, but there are pits (as the picture reflects) on the surface where the clutch engages.
