The Kenwood TS-530S transceiver is an upgrade to the TS-520 and TS-520S and succeeded the TS-820S in the Kenwood hybrid line of amateur HF transceivers. These sturdy and reliable transceivers include the TS-520, TS-520S, TS-820, TS-820S, TS-530S, and TS-830S, and all of them remain popular with amateurs worldwide. Each new model incorporated additional features and performance improvements while retaining the best of the previous model. Their architecture is solid state with the exception of the 12BY7 driver and a pair of 6146B power amplifier tubes. The hybrid combination of solid state and vacuum tube technologies takes advantage of the best of both. The TS-530S covers all HF amateur bands – 160, 80, 40, 30, 20, 17, 15, 12, and 10 meters -and was the first hybrid to cover the WARC bands. It includes a digital frequency display with 100 Hz resolution. WWV can be received at 10 MHz, and provision is made for installing an auxiliary band (MARS, for example). RF power output is 100 watts CW and slightly more peak SSB. There are years of enjoyable amateur radio operation left in this ol' boat anchor as a first rig for the novice (power is adjustable) or for experienced old timers like me.
