BROADBAND MILITARY RF BALL ANTENNA CAPACITANCE HAT
THIS IS A 13" DIAMETER ROUND / BALL ANTENNA.
EACH ELEMENT IS APPROX 21" LONG. CENTER POST IS PLASTIC. BASE IS ALUMINUM WITH A 3/8" 24 THREAD MOUNTING HOLE.
THESE CAME FROM A GOVERNMENT CONTRACTOR'S SURPLUS SO THEY ARE NO DOUBT TOP QUALITY.
THER ARE NO #S OR MFG NAME ON THEM SO I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THE XACT SPECS OR FREQ IS?? SHOULD BE IN THE 110-525MHZ BROADBAND RANGE.
HERE ARE SOME COMMENTS FROM HAMS WHO BOUGHT & TESTED THESE ANTENNAS-
I just tested the antenna using a ground plane under it cut for 2 meters ( 146MHz ) and this is what it did. I used a MFJ-257 analyzer to do the testing. From 140MHz to 160MHz the SWR is pretty flat at or about 1.5:1. I don't have an analyzer to check the 440MHz band but that antenna should work okay for ham radio operators and for satellite stuff. It is really broadband!
I just used my 5 watt HT ( hand held radio ) and made some on the air tests. I live on the far west side of Las Vegas and the 2 meter and 440 repeaters are west of me about 8 miles. I mounted the antenna about 6 feet off my garage floor and made a "quickie" 4 wire ground plane mounted at about 45 degrees to the antenna. I have a very large hill between me and both of the repeaters as well as three very large condo towers between me and the 2 meter repeater. I was able to use the repeaters easily from my garage and talked to another ham who said my signal was good and maybe even better on the UHF ( 440 MHz ) machine. The signal strength and audio back to me was exceptional. I was also able to hit a ARES repeater on 145.11 as well. I would say that these broadband antennas you're selling can be said to work for the VHF and UHF ham radio frequencies.
I put a wire with a bnc connector on one of the screws and hooked it up on my scanner, It works great sitting on my porch for the 800mhz trunk, 46.00mhz, and high band 144-162 band, and am sure it will work for all bands, picks up extreamly well, best antenna I ever bought, and those that know the 800mhz band know how hard it is to pick up, but it comes in alot more clear. I can only imagine how well it will do on the roof! Thanks
