* Both of these units have about the same amount of wear. The thin plastic ID labels don't stand up well to being rubbed off in tool boxes amongst other equipment. So appearance wise they look scruffy. But they are appear mechanical sound. (see "No Annual Factory Inspection Required" below photo gallery)
No Annual Factory Inspection Required
These units don't require annual factory recertification except when they have broken a fall that results in sufficient line-shock to activate a trip indicator. When this happens the attachment shackle shank changes from gray metal to red. Per conversation with Miller tech support, they tell me that once "tripped to red" the unit must be returned to Miller or an authorized dealer to reset the trip indicator and re-certify. See MightyLite NO Annual Inspection.pdf.
Miller Fall Protection charges about $148.00 to re-inspect, recertify and re-label.
IF RED IS SHOWING THE UNIT NEEDS RECERTIFICATION
UNITS BEING OFFERED HAVE NO RED SHOWING
NOTES: The arrest distance (free fall + deceleration) of 4-1/2 ft. is the maximum allowed per ANSI standards. Maximum arrest distance varies from retractable to retractable; however all Miller self-retracting lifelines and fall limiters meet the ANSI requirement.
A fall clearance calculation made from the anchor point must take into consideration the length of the anchorage connector being used and the length of the retractable housing.
The above diagram assumes the user is working directly under the anchor point, minimizing any possibility for a swing fall.
