12 HYBRID WILLOW TREE CUTTINGS Thats 12 trees for one low price! MAIN PHOTO IS ACTUAL PHOTO OF TREES EXACTLY ONE YEARS OLD. HYBRID WILLOWS ARE THE FASTEST GROWING TREE IN THE WORLD, TO THE BEST OF MY KNOWLEDGE. IN MARYLAND, 1 FOOT CUTTINGS WERE PLANTED IN THE SPRING, AND BY FALL THEY WERE A MINIMUM OF 14' AND A MAXIMUM OF 20'. IN CENTRAL CANADA THE RESULTS WERE 7' TO 12'. THE LONGER THE GROWING SEASON THE TALLER AND LARGER THE TREES WILL GROW. MY TREES IN MINNESOTA GROW 8' AVERAGE WITH NO SPECIAL EFFORT. I JUST PLANT THE CUTTINGS USING BLACK PLASTIC TO HELP HEAT THE GROUND, TRAP MOISTURE , AND KEEP THE WEEDS OUT. OR JUST USE MULCH OR WOOD CHIPS. ANOTHER COMMON NAME FOR THEM IS THE AUSTREE THE SUPER TREE FROM DOWN UNDER, AS IT WAS A GOVERNMENT STUDY IN AUSTRALIA. Trees develop extensive root system and can damage block foundations, sidewalks, underground pipes, drain tiles, etc so be careful where they are planted. Keep them away from a septic system. Roots of the tree generally are 1/3 the height of the tree in diameter and depth. If planting for a shelter belt for a windbreak or privacy fence, plant 3 feet apart in a single row and a grower will have an effective shelter within the first year. The close spacing provides a dense cover that will not use up too much space and the mature width of the shelter will be about 8-15 feet wide. A shelter planted 5 feet apart in double staggered rows provides a very thick break which can act as a snow trap in the winter as well. The trees should be topped every year to generate outward growth. If you prefer a shade tree, plant farther apart and trim the side branches to create one trunk.
