Little Blue Book for Roof & Stairway Layout The speed square is a versatile tool that is a contractors favorite tool for fast, accurate layout and cutting of angles for rafters, bracing, trim, cabinets, and general woodwroking. It's 5 tools in one (framing/try/miter square, saw guide plus a protractor). A simple, one-number (TM),(roof pitch) reference is used for both common and hip-valley rafter scales. The degree scales allows any measurement in degrees. The square is simply rotated to the proper pitch to assure the correct angle. The Little Blue Book for Roof and Stairway Layout contains easy-to-follow instructions, with tables and diagrams of common, hip, valley and jack rafters. The stairway section has formulas and diagrams for proper tread-to-rise ratio with headroom and landing allowances.
