They ideally complement a PRO8000 chassis with 8 DFB laser cards (WDMBCL) whose polarization states must be controlled, e.g. for the optimal launch into Lithium-Niobate modulators. The polarization transformation of each channel is based on Lefèvre loops (Mickey ears), coiled birefringent single mode fibers of appropriate length and bend radius. Each Lefèvre loop consists itself of three loop sections, each manually rotatable from the front of the box with 3 independent turn knobs. The three loop sections form a series of l/4, l/2, l/4 waveplates at 1550 nm. This set up enables the transformation of any input polarization state into any output polarization state at any wavelength in the given wavelength range.
