Endangered rare Heritage breed American catagory. Please see either or The American Livestock Breeds Conservancy threatened Breeds list, at www.albc-usa.org/wtchlist.htm#chickens This is very good dual purpose breed, for meat & eggs, and they lay extra-large, medium brown colored eggs persistantly thru the winter. Adult weight 10 lbs. for hens, & 12 to 13 lbs. for roosters. Very large pieces, by the time they are roasting birds, the legs & thighs look like turkey pieces (but without those awful tendons). They are calm, forage well. And both the hens and the roosters are very beautiful !!! Rich black, with a beautiful greenish sheen on the roosters. Rich red wattles & comb really stand out against the black, & you can see these birds from quite a distance, due to size & coloration. Photos just don't do them justice! We save the feathers for decorative purposes, they are thick & full, & so lovely... The rooster is gentle with the hens, which is a highly heritable trait. My rooster is from a different bloodline than the hens, so you will not have to breed out again for several generations.
