I have owned this tractor for about 10 years and have finally convinced myself that I will never be able to put the time into it that it deserves. So, it is being offered here to find a new home.
I bought this tractor about 10 years ago with grand plans to restore it. I then moved away from the area and never have been able to find a place for it at my new homes. Now, with 2 little kids I KNOW I won't be messing with it for at least 18 years (until they're both in college or out of the house). And, I have shifted interest to Wheel Horse stuff.
The previous owner told me that the engine had been rebuilt shortly before I bought it from him. It always ran nicely and usually started easily. For the first five years or so that I had it I would regularly drive it around and let it run for a while. For the past 5 years since I have lived in Indiana it has been sitting mostly untouched in Dad's barn in Alton, IL. We would start it once in a while, but it really hasn't moved very often since being parked in the corner of the shed.
I am not sure of the year as the serial number plate - while intact - is not legible. Apparently it was painted over by a previous owner and someone tried to clean it off. Some "experts" at tractor shows told me it is most likely a war-year tractor as it apparently has some distinguishing features like the frame rails and the steel serial number plate. It is a 6 spd transmission and it is an "early styled" machine so the oldest it can be is a 41 and the newest it can be is a 46. Regardless, it is old.
The tractor is a HAND START only tractor by spinning the flywheel. It usually started easily, but every once in a while - or if it was cold - would be reluctant to fire. It does NOT have hydrualics or any electrical system whatever. It does, of course, have a PTO shaft, a belt pulley, and a swinging drawbar. No fenders.
The engine does not smoke and it doesn't seem to use oil. The rear end has a very, very slow leak by the PTO shaft. Engine oil leaks from the governor housing oil fitting (I think it is for the gage) at the rear. All gears work and it will run down the road at a fast pace in top gear. I have never worked it hard other than pulling a few stumps and it did fine. Good oil pressure and I don't hear any wierd noises.
I have not started it since last summer. It should run with some fresh gas and perhaps new plugs. If it won't start when you come to get it you will be refunded any deposit and you don't have to take it. My dad has a cursory knowledge of starting/running this machine but he is usually there. I will do whatever I can to meet you when you come pick it up. If you think I have misrepresented anything, you don't own it. But rememeber this is a 60 year old, used tractor and has some flaws which I have tried to detail.
I apologize for the picture quality, but they do good job of showing the condition of the machine. I did not clean it up or try to make anything look better than it is. I probably should have moved the junk out of the way around it though.
None of this stuff is a big deal, but I can't deal with it given my obligations. I honestly think all it NEEDS is new paint, a new rim, and a carb kit.
If necessary, I can rent a trailer and bring it to my house in West Lebanon, IN (50 mile North of Terre Haute, 40 mile SW of Lafayette, 100 mile west of Indy), but the charge for delivery to here will be $450 (to cover the cost of the trailer rental and mileage at $1.50 per mile.) I'd rather not mess with it though and prefer you pick it up.
I will not share my reserve price, but I think it is fair given recent sales.
Please ask any questions early!
