MSA OptimAir 6/6A Powered Air Purifying Respirator (PAPR) This Is A Lightly Used Respirator Excessed By The Occupational Health And Safety Administration (OSHA) Motor/Blower Unit For HEPA (particulate) Cartridges Motor/Blower Unit For Organic Vapors Cartridges One (1) Battery (rechargeable Ni-Cd) Four New MSA HEPA Filter Cartridges (Particulates) Air Tube Connecting Blower to Respirator Mask Leather Belt For Attachment Of Motor/Blower Unit The rechargeable Nickel Cadmium battery is designed to be for single shift use of 8 hours, followed by 16 hours of recharge. It has been checked and ran (w/o filter cartridges in Blower unit) for more than eight hours. I have listed this as a Model OptimAir 6/6A. The difference in the two models is the type of blower/motor and filter cartridges used. The Model 6 uses a blower/motor that has "plug-in" filter mounts and used with rectagular plug-in filter cartridges for particulate filtration. The Model 6A uses a blower/motor that has "screw-in" filter mounts that allow use of a variety of MSA screw-in filter cartridges, including for toxic vapors/gases. This is a Model Optimair 6 that had been upgraded by addition of the blower/motor unit that accepts round screw-in filter cartridges. As far as I can tell, the only other difference between the two models is the Model 6 has a leather waist belt (as pictured) and the Model 6A comes with a poly belt. This unit appears lightly used, as one would expect for a unit that was probably used infrequently by OSHA personnel only for monitoring and inspection activities at regulated locations. This respirator system today retails for at least $700. Ask anyone who has worked for long "stay-times" in respirators (including myself) and they'll tell you that a powered air system is far less tiring (and much cooler) than a negative-pressure mask. However, recognize that the air supply tube in the positive-air system can be a bit cumbersome and somewhat restricts the wearer's mobility and dexterity.
