The 1/16" (1.6mm) chuck has been designed so the electrode doesn't protrude through the chuck. The 1/16" tungsten could restrict the gas flow if pushed too far back into the torch head. Because of the miniature size of the torch head and gas nozzle, shielding gas flow is very critical.
