This is a fully functional 70 MHz SAW filter module, formerly used as an IF filter in military satellite communications systems. The US government paid $6917 each for these rugged units, solidly constructed of aluminum with mostly stainless steel hardware. The fully enclosed module was housed in the satellite system IF translator patch panel. The unit requires 15 VDC power for relays and internal amplifiers, resulting in a nominal -6 dB insertion loss. A 5 position rotary switch selects the filter bandwidth with the 5th position as bypass. This filter was checked with a spectrum analyzer on all 4 of the possible bandwidth settings. The typical passband characteristic for each bandwidth setting is shown here as the first 4 positions. Please note that the filters vary a few dB in insertion loss from unit to unit.
