REED VISE 204R, 4" JAWS,IN GOOD CLEAN CONDITION
No question, Reed Mfg. Co. was a major player in the vise market from the very late 19th Century well into the 20th Century. With quality unmatched today, Reed made a vise for heavy industrial uses that would last for generations and today, are very collectible. Have you ever tried to turn a handle on a 300lb Reed ? I did, and when I lifted that 1"+ X 18"+ handle from the 3 o'clock to 12 o'clock, it was like doing an arm curl, and when that handle dropped, it sent a vibration thru the big steel table is was bolted onto! Those big ones from decades past are beginning to be a endangered species. On to this smaller Reed.
I'm assuming that this Reed was built after WWII and maybe into the 50's & 60's. It was one of the first with a 4 bolt mounting swivel base. The serrations are long gone leaving nice smooth faces on the jaws. Its been degreased, cleaned and lubed still leaving some original paint. Operation is typical. Guys, this vise is a piece of US history, one you can pass on to your kids. I've added a pair of magnetic rubber faced liners with it. Its functional, practical, and its life span will be unfortunately much longer then yours. Guys, I'm running a vise blitz this week and have various other vises listed also. Even I have to do some spring cleaning.
SPECIFICATIONS , LENGTH 16", HEIGHT, 8 3/4", OPENS TO, 6", WEIGHT 55LBS.
