This scanner utilizes TRIPLE CONVERSION SUPERHETRODYNE which means that it is very robust while working in areas that have hi RF energy i.e. big cities with repeaters on various buildings. This method removes most noises created by overload from transmitters. It has a very fact scan rate called "hyperscan" plus all the features you would desire on a scanner. This scanner was on my personal scanning bench and is one of my favorites. I am downsizing my scanners (I ran 16 on my bench at one time !) and this one is now up for sale. The unit comes with an antenna and is AC powered and is powered from a standard 100VAC household plug. This unit was bench tested and proven to operate at a full performance level as stated in the Radio Shack Manual.
