A spring loaded steady rest for use on 4-axis, two turret, CNC lathes. Used to support long, thin shafts or tubes while machining. The spring absorbs vibration and reduces rotational wobble (runout). Since it is mounted on a programmable turret, the user can determine the roller pressure that works best for each workpiece. The rollers are mounted on adjustable ears that can be positioned to fit a large range of part diameters. One roller is mounted on an eccentric shaft, which allows fine tuning of the height in order to equalize pressure on both rollers. The STABILIZER can also be used as a burnisher on workpieces with sufficient rigidity. The amount of spring compression (deflection) can be varied by changing the springs. The standard assembly allows up to 0.180" deflection with a load of 250 lbs. Total deflection will result in 1/4" compression with 3200 lbs. of load. Workpiece diameters of up to 2" can be supported at an included angle of 120 degrees which gives optimum dampening and support. Diameters of 3" and over can be turned when part deflection is the primary concern. Please supply an email with the bolt hole pattern of your turret. The mounting plate will be machined to fit. All surfaces have been hardened to reduce wear. This unit is warranted to be free from manufacturing defects for a period of 30 days. Please email any application questions.
