Yellow Dog Lantern and what I understand is that they would fill them with a heavy oil, light them and let them burn and mark the place where a Gas Pumping engine was or some other item that was hard to find in the dark. It is in excelent condition with no breaks or any repairs. The handle is missing though. The bottom measrue's 6 1/4" and the opening on the top measrues 2 7/8" - Please contact me for any futher questions.
