THE HOUSING IS OF WELDED STEEL CONSTRUCTION, INCORPORATING ALL NECESSARY RIBBING FOR STRUCTURE STRENGTH. MAIN SHAFT & BEARINGS: THE ALLOY STEEL MANDREL SHAFT ROTATES IN A SLEEVE CLOSELY FITTED TO THE DRUM. THE SLEEVE ROTATES IN TIMKEN-TYPE TAPERED ROLLER BEARINGS IN FRONT AND IN THE REAR. THE SHAFT SLIDES BACK AND FORTH IN THE SLEEVE FOR MANDREL EXPANSION. CARE IS TAKEN TO MINIMIZE MACHINING ON THE SHAFT TO MINIMIZE DEFLECTION, A DESIGN WHICH GIVES AN EXTRA MARGIN OF STRENGTH. THIS MAIN SHAFT HAS A 12" DIAMETER. MANDREL (DRUM): AN EXPANDING MANDREL GRIPS THE INSIDE DIAMETER OF THE COIL. THE MANDREL IS COMPRISED OF STEEL SEGMENTS 2" THICK WHICH PREVENT DISTORTION AND PROVIDES LONGER LIFE. EXPANSION AND CONTRACTION OF STEEL WEDGES POWERED FROM A ROTATING HYDRAULIC CYLINDER. THREADING DRIVE: HYDRAULIC MOTOR ACTS AS A THREADING DRIVE. GEAR RATIO TO THE MAIN SHAFT IS 5.6:1. BRAKING: AN EATON 214 WCB WATER COOLED BRAKE IS MOUNTED TO A SECOND DRIVE SHAFT. THIS SHAFT IS PART OF THE MAIN GEAR TRAIN DRIVEN BY THE HYDRAULIC MOTOR. GEAR RATIO TO THE MAIN SHAFT IS 2.33:1. CENTERING ADJUSTMENT: THE UNCOILER HOUSING IS SUPPORTED ON HARDENED WEAR PLATES ON THE MACHINED WAYS OF A FABRICATED STEEL SUB-BASE. A HYDRAULIC CYLINDER MOUNTED IN THE SUB-BASE SHIFTS THE UNCOILER EITHER SIDE OF CENTERLINE AS REQUIRED FOR COIL ALIGNMENT. HOLDDOWN ROLL ASSEMBLY: THE HOLDDOWN ROLL IS A STEEL ROLL WITH A RUBBER COVERING. THE HOLDDOWN ASSEMBLY IS POSITIONED ON THE ENTRY SIDE OF THE UNCOILER AND IS USED TO HOLD DOWN THE OUTER WRAPS OF THE COIL. THE HOLDDOWN PRESSURE IS OBTAINED BY HYDRAULIC CYLINDER. HOLDDOWN ROLL IS DRIVEN BY A HYDRAULIC MOTOR. UNIQUE NEW FEATURE: BOTH SIDES OF THE MAIN HOUSING ARE PRE-MACHINED TO ACCEPT THE HOLDDOWN ROLL.
