This receiver picks up signals on ALL bands, of which there are 5. Longwave, AM and 3 shortwave bands. Dial cords on both tuning dial and bandspread dial are intact and functioning. I'm an audio tech so I sprayed the controls and switches, and that's the end of my shortwave knowledge. I can say this receiver is in great shape for its age and works wonderfully with a proper antenna. I tested it with a 25 foot wire. This receiver is guaranteed to pick up stations (several on each band) but could probably use a new set of tubes and a touch-up alignment job. I would think any receiver this old needs it.
