When completed, the Rorty No.3 DIY Tube Bender will be capable of bending chrome moly tube and mild steel DOM tube (Ø12mm – Ø50mm [1/2" - 2"]) and square tube (12mm – 50mm [1/2" - 2"]) and pipe (Ø12mm – Ø38mm [1/2" - 1-1/2"]), using commercially available dies. The Rorty No.3 Bender is ideal for larger projects and professional use, offering some marked improvements over commercially bought variants. A time-saving quick action clamp secures the tube to the die and will not mark the tube unlike the more common use of a bolt pressing against the tube. An easily read and adjustable degree wheel is included in the design. Roll bars and race cages are a breeze with this tool. This tube bender can bend up to 180 degrees. Die sets for round tube, square tube, and pipe, are available on-line or by mail order. When not in use, the tube bender can be quickly de-mounted and stored away. The Rorty No.3 Tube Bender is designed with the utmost simplicity of construction in mind. The stand and most of the other components can, in most instances, be made from common steel off-cuts found in the average workshop. Besides a welder, the only other tools required are a felt tip marker, a compass, a tape measure, a setsquare, a hacksaw (or cut-off saw), a pedestal drill (or hand drill), and an angle grinder (or file) for finishing.
