It is immaculate in it's fancy storage case. I spoke to the salesman for this company, this is used to test other equipment for immunity to ESD (electrostatic discharge). You know how when you walk across the carpet on a dry day and touch something metal and get shocked? You wouldn't want your medical equipment to freak out in that instance! So this is how those tests are done. They point it at the equipment and turn up the charge to make sure no failures occur, or at what esd voltage they occur. I imagine if the equipment has good enough grounding there would be sufficient immunity to ESD problems. I tested it, lemme tell you when I turned it up to 25,000 volts the thing sounded impressive.
